Migraine (source: Anttila, 2013)

A migraine is the most common brain disorder, affecting 14% of adults. Currently, few genetic factors that associate with an increased predisposition to migraines have been found. This genome-wide association study identified 12 migraine-associated genetic variants. Most of the discovered variants are located in or near genes that play a role in synaptic function.

Migraine without aura (source: Freilinger, 2012)

Migraine without aura may be influenced by genetic variants that affect neuronal signaling, migration, and growth. Migraines appear to be heritable, yet few genetic variants have been discovered. This study identified several genetic variants associated with migraines without aura in 6,906 German and Dutch individuals.
